Problem/Opportunity
Electrification of the economy requires batteries, electric engines, wind turbines, and the development of electric grids. This created demand for rare earths such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and copper. The problem is that land mining is environmentally damaging, unreliable, and has low deposits.
Solution & Product
The world's oceans hold about 70 times more cobalt than land, and with sustainable technologies like passive adsorption, we can collect this precious resource. Imagine a specialized sponge designed to soak up these essential elements, making it possible to gather them effortlessly.
Validation of Problem
According to publicly available data, global demand for cobalt grew from 112.000t to 170.000t between 2019 and 2023, and demand for lithium grew from 29.500t to 180.000t between 2016 and 2023.
Competition & Competitive Advantage
A major competitor is land mining which is extremely environmentally destructive, politically dependent and unstable, and has low deposits. The other competitor which is recycling cannot supply all the resources necessary for energy transformation.
